Additional Information
Minisymposia
This format is being modified for CSE21, where a minisymposium will consist of five 15-minute presentations, with an additional five minutes for discussion after each presentation. Prospective organizers can propose between 4 and 5 presentations, with any remaining presentations complemented by broader community submissions. In addition, minisymposia can be composed of at most two parts, each part consisting of at least four distinct speakers identified in the submission. No exceptions will be considered. Sessions submitted with more than one speaker listed as “TBD/TBA,” or using placeholders, risk immediate rejection.
To ensure balance, SIAM requests that a single individual not be the organizer or co-organizer of more than one minisymposium (and not present more than one talk or poster). Minisymposium session organizers and individual speakers are equally responsible for ensuring participants adhere to the one talk or poster per person rule.
It is recommended that the first presentation includes an introduction and context for the minisymposium. Each minisymposium speaker must submit an abstract for their talk. The organizing committee will referee minisymposium proposals. The number of minisymposia may be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in the conference sessions.
Please review the Guidelines for Preparing a Minisymposium Proposal and note that CSE21 minisymposia will consist of five speakers, of which at least four have been identified by a prospective organizer. SIAM strongly discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers (or co-authors) come from the same organization.
Prospective minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters including spaces), and a list of speakers and titles of their presentations using the Conference Management System.
Deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals: July 20, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Extended deadline: August 10, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Deadline for submission of minisymposium speaker abstracts: August 17, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Extended deadline: September 7, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Contributed Presentations in Lecture or Poster Format (including poster minisymposia)
Contributed presentations in poster format are invited in all areas consistent with the conference themes. A poster format involves the use of visual aids for mounting on a 4’ x 8’ poster board. The posters will be displayed in one of two poster sessions. Poster presenters will have the option of presenting in one of the plenary poster blitz sessions. In addition, prizes will be awarded including “best overall poster,” and “best use of electronic media.”
To participate, each contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces. Please submit contributed presentations in poster format using the Conference Management System.
Minisymposterium (Poster Minisymposia)
A minisymposterium consists of a collection of three or more posters by different presenters grouped around a central theme. The posters will be co-located in the poster viewing area.
To submit a Minisymposterium, organizers and poster participants must coordinate and do the following. Participants must submit their posters using the Conference Management System. The poster title should be submitted as “Minisymposterium: [insert poster title]”. After the posters are submitted to the Conference Management System, organizers must submit the minisymposterium proposal form.
Deadline for submission of poster abstracts: August 31, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Extended deadline: September 21, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Deadline for submission of minisymposterium proposals: August 31, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Extended deadline: September 21, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Presentations in Lecture Format
Contributed presentations in lecture format are also invited as an alternative to poster presentations. However, since conference attendees have preferred poster presentations in the past, poster presentations are encouraged over contributed lectures.
A lecture format involves a 15-minute oral presentation with an additional 5 minutes for discussion. Each contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, including blank spaces. Acceptance of abstracts for contributed presentations will be based on compatibility with the conference themes and space in appropriate parallel sessions (including minisymposia).
SIAM requests participants to submit only one presentation (either a minisymposium presentation, contributed lecture, or poster).
Please submit contributed presentations using the Conference Management System.
Deadline for submission of contributed abstracts in lecture format: August 31, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Extended deadline: September 21, 2020 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
