Important Submission Information

SIAM requests that individuals limit themselves to giving one talk. (This does not apply to invited plenary speakers). A poster may be presented in addition to a talk, provided the talk and the poster are on different results. All submissions are subject to review and final approval by the co-chairs of the organizing committee. The co-chairs will consider exceptions on a case-by-case basis when exceptional circumstances exist (i.e., presenter is ill, presenter is unable to obtain visa). In no case should a presenter initially plan to deliver more than one talk.  If exceptional circumstances occur, and it is necessary to request an exception to this rule, please write to Suzanne Shontz.

You are invited to contribute a presentation for this conference in one of the following formats.

Acceptance Notification was emailed on Monday, November 19, 2018. Contact meetings@siam.org with any questions.

The Conference Organizing Committee expects every speaker in a scheduled presentation to register and attend the conference.

If it becomes necessary for a speaker to cancel a presentation, he or she should try to find an alternate presenter immediately, preferably a co-author. See SIAM Policy on Substitute Speakers and Remote Presentations. Contact SIAM at meetings@siam.org immediately with any change to a scheduled presentation.

A “no-show” or cancelled presentation can cause serious inconvenience to the attendees and conference organizers. The committee thanks all speakers in advance for their compliance to this request.

Additional Information

Minisymposia

A minisymposium generally consists of four 20-minute presentations, with an additional five minutes for discussion after each presentation. Prospective minisymposium organizers are asked to submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters including spaces), and a list of speakers and titles of their presentations using the Conference Management System.

It is recommended that a minisymposium organizer make the first presentation. Each minisymposium speaker should submit an abstract no longer than 1500 characters, including spaces. The organizing committee will referee minisymposium proposals. The number of minisymposia may be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in the conference sessions.

To ensure balance, SIAM requests that a single individual not be the organizer or co-organizer of more than one minisymposium (and not give more than one talk as noted above). In addition, SIAM requests that minisymposia be comprised of at most two parts. No exceptions for more than two parts will be considered.  SIAM strongly discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers (or co-authors) come from the same organization.

Be certain to review Guidelines for Preparing a Minisymposium Proposal.

Prospective minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces), a list of speakers and presentation titles using the Conference Management System.

Final deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals: August 15, 2018 (no additional extensions)
Final deadline for submission of minisymposium speaker abstracts: September 5, 2018 (no additional extensions)

Contributed Presentations in Poster Format

Contributed presentations in poster format are invited in all areas consistent with the conference themes. A poster format involves the use of visual aids for mounting on a 4’ x 6’ or 4’ x 8’ poster board. The posters will be displayed in a two-hour poster session during the day. To participate, each contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces.

Final deadline for submission of contributed abstracts: September 5, 2018 (no additional extensions)

Prizes will be awarded during the poster sessions --- e.g. “best overall poster” and “best student poster.”  In addition, poster blitzes could precede the poster session.

Poster Minisymposia

A minisymposium of posters (that is, a minisymposterium) consists of a collection of three or more posters by different presenters grouped around a central theme. The posters will be co-located in the poster viewing area.

To submit a Minisymposterium, organizers and poster participants must coordinate and do the following:

  1. Participants must submit their posters by September 5, 2018 using the Conference Management System (CMS): http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=cs19. The poster title should be submitted as “Minisymposterium: [insert poster title]”.
  2. After the posters are submitted to the CMS, Organizers must send an email to meetings@siam.org the subject line "CSE19 Minisymposterium – [insert minisymposterium title]." The email must include:
  1. Organizer name, affiliation, email address
  2. A short title for the minisymposterium
  3. A short description of the minisymposterium (less than 1,500 characters including spaces)
  4. Poster titles and presenters first name, last name, and affiliation for each poster scheduled within the minisymposterium

Contributed Presentations in Lecture Format

Contributed presentations in lecture format are also invited as an alternative to poster presentations. However, since conference attendees have preferred poster presentations in the past, poster presentations are encouraged over contributed lectures. A lecture format involves a 10-minute oral presentation with an additional 5 minutes for discussion. Each contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, included blank spaces. Acceptance of abstracts for contributed presentations will be based on compatibility with the conference themes and space in the parallel sessions (with priority given to minisymposia and posters). Please submit contributed presentations in lecture format using the Conference Management System.

Final deadline for submission of contributed abstracts in lecture format: September 5, 2018 (no additional extensions)
